Metropolitan Neofitos Kong’ai; A Shepherd of Deep Faith

His Eminence Metropolitan Neofitos Kong’ai, born in Kesengei village, Nandi District, in 1970, has walked a journey of humble service and spiritual devotion. A graduate of the Patriarchal Seminary of Archbishop Makarios III of Kenya, he has been known for his unwavering faith, pastoral sensitivity, and dedication to spreading Orthodoxy in the region.
Throughout his ministry, Metropolitan Neofitos has distinguished himself as a voice of compassion and truth — guiding the faithful of Eldoret with wisdom, humility, and a missionary heart. His elevation to the rank of Metropolitan is a recognition of his steadfast leadership and a blessing for the Orthodox faithful of Kenya.
Bishop-Elect Mugadizi Philip: A Scholar and Servant Leader
The Synod also joyfully announced the election of Archimandrite Mugadizi Philip as Bishop-Elect of Kisumu and Western Kenya, a region rich in Orthodox history and promise.
Bishop-Elect Mugadizi brings to his new ministry a wealth of experience as an educator, pastor, and administrator. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Leadership and Management from St. Paul’s University and a Master of Divinity from St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. His service to the Church has been marked by humility, intellectual depth, and a strong pastoral vision that bridges faith and community transformation.
A Moment of Joy and Renewal
The elevation and election of these two devoted servants come at a time when the Orthodox Church in Kenya continues to expand in faith, education, and mission. Their appointments underscore the Patriarchate of Alexandria’s commitment to nurturing strong indigenous leadership, firmly rooted in the Gospel and in service to the people of God.
We join the faithful across Kenya and all of Africa in offering heartfelt congratulations and prayers for Metropolitan Neofitos Kong’ai and Bishop-Elect Mugadizi Philip.
May the Lord strengthen them in their sacred calling, grant them many blessed years, and make their ministry fruitful to the glory of His Holy Name.
